Feeling good about how we feed our babies

Why do we make the Duty Mistake?

MISTAKEN ASSUMPTION

‘If breastfeeding is good for the child, mothers must breastfeed and need to give an excuse if they don’t’

Women shouldn’t breastfeed unless it is clearly necessary for health reasons.

MADE BECAUSE WE FORGET THAT

Something can be good without being required

Decisions about how to feed our babies are very personal.

Each of us has to decide what works best for our family.

Breastfeeding is not something odd or upsetting.

You don’t need a justification to make it acceptable to breastfeed.

Recognising these mistakes can help us have better conversations about how we feed our babies.
